 HAZOP vs HAZID


HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) and HAZID (Hazard Identification) are both important methods used in process safety management to identify and assess potential hazards in industrial processes. There are several differences between the two methods, and some of them are as follows:

◼ HAZID is high level in nature with the purpose of identifying major accident. It is a "top-down" approch, where major accident (i.e. top events in the event tree) are identified, then a sample of potential causes are listed.
But HAZOP study is opposed to HAZID which is "bottom-Up" approche, where the root causes are identified and the events which follow are listed.

⬛ The other difference between HAZOP and HAZID is that HAZOP is a more detailed and systematic analysis technique that focuses not only on hazard identification but also on operability issues. HAZOP is typically used to identify potential deviations from the intended process design, and to evaluate the potential consequences of these deviations on safety, environmental impact, and process efficiency.

⬛ HAZID is typically performed in the early stages of a project or process design, while HAZOP is typically performed during the detailed design or operational phase of a process or system.
